I personally wouldn't get a drill press or wood lathe from HF. By even mentioning a wood lathe, that implies you are interested in some level of precision woodworking. I would be genuinely concerned that the drive pin and tailstock don't perfectly line up and/or that there would be a tiny bit of wobble in the drive pin. Anything more detailed than a baseball bat is going to be tough to do on a lathe that doesn't run true.
I don't have one of their toolboxes, but I agree they certainly seem servicable. Personally, I got one of the Husky tool chests from Home Depot. Same price and seemed to be slightly nicer.
